JW's DIARY 1862

Written by him at 16 years of age, while migrating on his own, when he sailed from London to Port Adelaide. An 81 day voyage, remarkably well written and expresses many feelings and experiences.

It is in an exercise book and takes up the first half. The last half of the same book was describing his early life in our young colony and his moving to Auburn and working for Mr William Wiles in his store. JW was thorough in his writings and often mentions food available, describes clothing at times and later some of his store experiences.

2023 - This complete diary has been read into an audio version for safe keeping - almost 4 hours.

Audios by Judy Prior late 2023

JW's 1882 voyage back to his Homeland in the coal steamer era.  Not as interesting - but very nice to obtain finally, mentioned but not sighted until 2023.

  - This article published in various instalments of the Kapunda Herald during his voyage and reedited by David Wilson, then again slightly by Judy Prior and Chelsea McKnight in January 2024.

JW's 1923 world trip

- have an audio version written by Jean Vincent Castine, later Moyle, read by her daughter Wendy. We also possess Gert's Diary of the same trip, as well as JW's original notes and written version from those.

There are other articles from older newspapers, written by JW, more about local history though.
