Nannie_reloc stone.jpg

A memorial stone found in North Brighton cemetery (2017) for Nannie, (JW's first wife who died in 1909 at Auburn) was returned to her grave in the Auburn cemetery in 2019.

It matches the stone surround at the perimeter of both graves.

Since our 2014 reunion we have discovered -

1 - Exactly on which ship John William came to South Australia.

2 - Alison Waterman (married Graham) passed on some heirlooms to Jude & Anni before she moved interstate. In particular a special framed glass photo dated 1858 of JW and his two sisters.

3 - Jude's mum, Jo passed away June 2017 & left an heirloom brooch. It is beautiful - made in East Stonehouse, Devon, England.

Jude's godmother Wendy Chambers has told how the 2nd Mrs EW, (Ena) and her sister Mary Warrren wanted the grandchildren to have family mementos.  This certainly fits as Rose Castine has a pendant with Mary Warren's picture behind it.

4 - In the photo to the left, Elizabeth appears to be wearing this brooch, before she passed it on to her 2nd daughter Ena. Jude believes this brooch was treasured by her mum Jo, as it was given to her by Auntie Ena.

bottom right - A proud John William posed for a photo with his 1st great grandchild Josephine.  On the left is eldest son Ern with his eldest daughter Rita Angus.
